Murano glass

Murano glass

Murano glass has made it famous as an artistic glass is the fact that it is a soft glass. This means that it melts at low temperatures, compared to other types of glass such as borosilicate, and cools slowly, thus allowing the master glassmaker time to shape it by hand. A drawback of this type of glass (soft glass) is that it is extremely sensitive to temperature changes, requiring greater care during processing. The glass must be cooled as slowly as possible,
especially in the range between 450° and 300°, when stresses are created that
could lead to breakage. Once processing is complete, the created object must be placed inside a muffle, a furnace that maintains a fixed temperature of 500° during processing and then slowly lowers the temperature to room temperature.
